Nails Trimmed

Babe is getting her nails trimmed for the holidays. I finally located the farrier that came in Springtime to trim her nail. He was so gentle and kind to her. Her nails are gettin to long and she is have a little difficulty in walking. I guess when the piggies are outside their hoofs are naturally being trimmed. In the house all she does is walk from one pile of her blankies in the livingroom, to the other pile of her blankies in the bedroom.

My son and I will have to wear earplugs when she gets her hoofs trimmed. The last time she had it done she squealed so loud that you would think she was being skinned alive. It really hurt me to think that she was so afraid.

New things about Babe

Good morning:

Babe has found a new way to show she loves me and wants something. First, she has found a new sound, almost like a purr. When I am standing at the sink, (she knows the fridge is nearby) she nose butts my legs, if I ignore her she head buts me if I still pretend to ignore her, she starts rubbing her body along my shins. She must have watched my cat doing this for attentions. Unfortunately the kitty is smooth, Babe is bristly.

If the cat is sleeping on her mat, Babe walks over and either snorts at her, or pushes her. When Babe is sleeping besides my bed on her blankies, the cat comes up and leans over the edge of the bed and touches Babes ears. I am glad she gets along with the cat.

The other night Luka, our Husky came to visit. She passed Babe sleeping in the livingroom. Babe got up squawking and began following Luka. Wherever Luka went she trailed behind. She seemed to be saying, " Keep walking this is my home" I would never leave the two of them alone but it did look cute to watch them together.

Babe Fussing again

I have always said that whenever I eat chocolate or pasta I feel sleepy. Yesterday Tori made brownies, and when I went upstairs today I cut myself a good size piece and since then I slepted most of the day. Babe kept fussing and waking me up. I feed her but she still fussed. At supper tonight, I mentioned this to my son. He got a funny look on his face and said "Remember when you were having your heart attack and Babe kept fussing? I said yes. He then said that since I now know that I have sugar diabetes, I wasn't sleeping all day. I had passed out. Babe knew that something was wrong and that is why she kept waking me up." Wolf said that animals can sense when their loved ones are ill and do try to help them if we would only listen. I will certainly listen from now on. Twice Babe helped me. Now I have a reason not to put her outside, I need her to keep me well.

Not feeling well

Babe has been grinding her teeth and being irritable. I got up on Tuesday morning and stepped on one of her teeth. I stepped on another one on Thursday. She is behaving normally now and seems to be feeling better. She is eating me out of house and home. She has been limping on her little feet and so I have a farrier coming on Tuesday to clip her toe nails. They are long. I will be leaving because I know she will scream and I don't want to get upset.

Babe and Luka

Luka, my son's Huskey came down to visit today. I was having a breakfast of pancakes. Babe sat on her hanches and Luka sat down one on each side of me and guess what. They were both looking at me with such longing in their eyes that I did not get any breakfast. I fed it to them. Both Babe and Luke know how to eat off a fork. I just had to clean the syrup off Babe's nose. They then both settled down. Babe on her blankie at the side of my bed and Luka on my bed. My cat came in saw them both, gave a disgusted swish of her tail and curled up on the chair and went to sleep also. It is great that they all get along.

Keeping Craftroom clean

I have to keep my craft room floor clean because whatever I drop on the floor is a snack for Babe. She loves the taste of wallpaper, must be the glue. If she has a piece of paper in her mouth and I try to take it away from her, she chews faster. I have to keep all my floors swept because whatever is on it is fair game. She is really good for my figure as well. I never get to eat a complete meal. Babe is always there, just like a dog begging for a mouthful. She is soooo cute that I can't resist. I have found out that she does not like broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, or peppers. I thought piggies eat everything. But not Babe. She will eat her pellets around anything she doesn't like.
I am in a swap called Pets. I make a card with a piggly on it.

More about Babe

Babe is doing well. She has started to do something new. When I am standing at the sink, she like to rub her face against my legs, just like a cat would do. The only problem is a cat has soft fur and Babe has bristles. My son keeps saying that Babe has to go outside to her run and summer house in a few weeks. I just place my hand over my heart and tell him not to upset me. I know it may be better for Babe to be outside, but who will cover her at night with her blankie. Everytime I say this to my son, he says that he has a small mobile home that he can put near the pen and I could live in it.

Friendly visit

My friend Val came for a visit yesterday. It seems that Babe likes people. She had to check out Val's suede shoes and her leather purse. Val left with piggy gobbers on her shoes, but at least nothing is missing from her purse. Babe thinks that everyone has to give her treats and pet her.
Oh what a life.

Piggy in a Blanket

A picture of Babe at her best. The thing she loves doing the most. Sleeping. It looks like her ears are in need of a cleaning.

Saved by a Piggly

Early Tuesday morning, March 1, 2011 my pet piggy was making an awful ruckus around 2:30 p.m. and I thought she wanted something to eat. I got up and fed her, but I felt like I had a heavy weight pressing on my chest. I figured it would go away. I lay back down, but had difficulty breathing. Babe kept fussing and got me up again about 3:00. The pressure was so bad on my chest that I got scared and went upstairs to my mom. She sprayed under my tongue with Nito and I went back downstairs. My son Wolf came down and wanted to call an ambulance. I refused. I got up and got ready for work, but the pressure was still there. I drove to work but still did not feel good. My friend Val, told me that I looked grey. She wanted to drive me to hospital so did Mona. My TM wanted to call a cab, but being stubborn, I said no. I drove myself to the General Hospital.

When they checked my blood pressure it was 199 over something. A little high. I was admitted and they found that the main artery to my heart had closed that is why I was having problems with my breathing. They said that I had suffered a massive heart attack and that I was very fortunate because 2 out of 3 people don't make it. I went Thursday to Hamilton and they put 2 shunts into the artery. Now I find that I also have sugar diabetes, but instead of medication, I am going to control i with Diet and Exercise. I came home yesterday. I have to take it easy for a few weeks and will be off work until April 4.

I have to thank my piggly, because if she had not have kept waking me up, I may have never gotten up like my friend Sharon.

Babe and her likes and dislikes

You would not think that piggies have likes and dislikes. Everyone thinks that pigs eat anything and everything. Not so with Babe-Piggly She does not like broccoli, banana peel or uncooked potatoes. She will eat potato skins only when they are cooked.

She likes to snuggly down in her blankies and sometimes she rolls over and wrapping herself up and looks like an eggroll. All you can see is her little snout showing. I have to unroll her to get her out. I am trying to teach her a trick or two. She will come when call and when I put up my hand and say stop, she bangs into it, but does not move. She waits for her treat.

Life With Babe-Piggly

When the weather started to get cold in October, I made the decision to bring Babe, my potbellied piggy in to live downstairs with me in my downstairs apartment. My son helped me to bring her in. At that time she weighed about 100 lbs. She has now reached about 125. We are wondering how we will get her up the stairs when Spring time comes and put her back into her outside pen. How many other piggies have both summer and winter accommodations.?

I made her a bed of a quilt and a blanket in my livingroom and at night she sleeps on a blanket beside my bed. She is just like a pink dog. She knows when I come home and starts squawking until I come down and speak to her. She follows me all around my apartment and likes to be with me in my studio/craftroom.

At first I was concerned about her toilet training. But I was in for a wonderful surprise. I read up about potbellied piggies on the internet. It said that they do not mess or wet where they eat. I layed down a tarp and over that I put a thick layer of newspaper. I placed her water in the corner and put her food on the other side of the room. She came in, went to drink, used the papers and I have had no problem with her messing anywhere else but on her papers. I put clean ones down everytime she messes or wets and I have no odor in my home.

We have very little organic matter for recycling. Left over meat is eaten by our dogs, and all other food stuffs, old veggies and fruit, etc is eaten by Babe. There are certain things she will not eat, broccoli and green peppers are just a few.

People have a poor opinion of pigs. They are not dirty but like to be clean, they have likes and dislikes and are very loving.
